Hola!! ¿Cómo estás?.. Today is April 26th which means it is my last day here in Lima, Peru. Holy crap right?!? First, I just want to thank everyone that has kept up and read my blogs, and then of course thank my friends and family that have supported me on this crazy adventure! These past couple of weeks have been kinda crazy and I think due to the fact that they were my last weeks here. Our professor, Dr. Miller, said whenever you travel for a long period of time, you go through different phases and the last phase on the curve is you remember and think about all the things you haven't done yet, so you wanna do them all before you leave!! I think this is a good explanation of our last weeks here!! Here we go....<br />
<br />
For the last 3-4 weeks, we were able to go and visit a school here in Lima. It was a private catholic school called PO12. I was obviously extremely excited to do this and see how a school system differs than the schools I've seen in NE. This school had all the grades from Kinder- all the way up to their last year, which I think if I remember right their "senior" year was called their Quinto año. The classroom we were able to work in was with the Quinto kiddos aka the seniors. These kids were the best. They were so welcoming to us and spoke very good English. We would come during their english hour so we would talk about the differences between Peru and NE, and other things. On our last day, they threw us a going away/thank you party. It was amazing. They made us all different kinds of Peruvian food and we of course loved it. So after spending the morning with them and eating some different food, we took some pictures and it was then time for our goodbyes. This experience was one of the best I've had in Lima, and I am going to miss this kids.<br />

<span style="line-height: 200%;"><span style="font-size: small;">Now
to talk about school. I am so unbelievably happy and relieved we are done for
school for the semester. Between having 4 finals in one week, a 10 page
research paper due, and try to still have fun my last week here, I was
stressing out! I have not studied so much in my entire life!! Okay that might
be an exaggeration but I am glad my classes are done. Still, Peruvian
literature and Conversation might have be the death of us but we got through
it! Thank goodness. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="line-height: 25.600000381469727px;">Another great happening this week, is we went over to Nikki's house because her dad (Jaime) kept telling us over and over again how good his lasagna is. He then went in to tell us the whole process of the sauce making!! He's too cute.So we head over to Nikki's after class, are sipping on some wine and hanging out and then DING! Lasagna is ready and Jaime is beaming from ear to ear! The lasagna was probably the best food I've had in Peru, so I will give it to Jaime, he's a good lasagna cook!! </span></span></div>

<span style="line-height: 200%;"><span style="font-size: small;">After
our Psychology and Conversation finals, we decided as a group we wanted to take
the Miller’s out to dinner for all that they have done for us. We went to Tanta
in Larcomar which is strictly a Peruvian restaurant. The food was great, I had
my favorite Aji de Gallina. We then treated ourselves to the wonderful La
Bonbeirre cheesecake!! It was a great night. We are so lucky to have traveled
and met Dr. Miller and Jeanie. They are such nice people and we had so much fun
with them. </span><span style="font-size: medium;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="line-height: 200%;"><span style="font-size: small;">Since Tuesday is our free day, we definitely took advantage of it and went to the chocolate museum in Miraflores. This was such a fun amazing experience. We learned all about the cacao beans, and trees and tried different things including some spicy hot chocolate and then some really good hot chocolate. We then got to make our own chocolate and take it home with us! It was so much fun! We all then kinda went a little shopping crazy in their souvenir shop :)</span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="line-height: 200%;"><span style="font-size: small;">On
my last full day in Lima (cannot believe I’m actually saying this), I spent my
time packing, packing, and trying to figure out what I can leave behind to not
make my bags overweight!! Finally after a couple hours of struggling and
getting mostly packed, Missy and I treated ourselves to getting our nails done
then some cheesecake. Later that night, Nikki’s wonderful family (I consider to
be a part of their family) came and picked me up and we went for a drive/walk
along the beach one last time. It was a great way to end the trip and it was
absolutely beautiful. </span><span style="font-size: medium;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="line-height: 200%;"><span style="font-size: small;">As time is coming to an end, literally hours before I leave Lima, I really cannot believe it. It has been one of the craziest, fun experiences of my life and as I have said many times, I could not have done it without the other UNKers here. </span></span><span style="font-size: small; line-height: 200%;"> </span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 200%; text-align: center;">What do I love about my fellow travelers
aka UNKers aka my family?? There’s nothing not to love about them. They are
fun, exciting, hilarious, always down for a good time, adventurous,
spontaneous, and so much more! That’s pretty hard to find in a person and I
found it in all of them. </span></span><span style="font-size: small; line-height: 200%;">They seriously are the best people I could have met and done this experience with. We are like a family, and we care about each other so much. It's almost scary how much we all know about each other!! We definitely have had the best times, and made every situation a good one even when we thought it wasn't possible. Not only that, we have some of the best stories and I cannot wait to reminisce about them in the future. We have all promised that we will have reunions and stay close, so I'm gonna hold us too that! </span></div>

this phrase, going home, meant my apartment with my Peruvian family. Now the
phrase home, is my home in Ashton. I am so incredibly excited to see my family,
and yes I will probably be one of those sobbing hot messes in the airport but
at the same time I am sad and quite frankly a little nervous. I think this is
because I have gotten accustomed to this life style here and it’s so weird for
me to think I will go back and get accustomed to my lifestyle in NE. What am I going to miss?? I am going to miss my family of course, all of the UNKers, the weather, some of the food (cheesecake mostly), my cute little guards at my apartment, the overwhelming amount of things to do in Lima, the beach, and all in all.this crazy thing called life here in Lima. I leave tonight at 11:50 and cannot believe it. This experience has definitely been one for the books and has changed my life in so many ways!! Hola de Lima, Peru!! I know it's been a little while since I last wrote, but sorry I have been oh so busy with this crazy thing called life here in Lima!! Welll...kinda. Where do I start? Today is day 94 which according to my calculations I only have 13 days left. As I type that out, I am excited, and sad at the same time. Well before I start getting all sappy and emotional, here is another portion of my life here in Lima.<br />
<br />
Well last Saturday, we finally got it organized with our literature teacher to go and tour downtown Lima. Our literature teacher is something else. He's probably the most unorganized teacher I have ever met in my whole life. We have been trying to go on this tour for a couple weeks now, and finally we found a time that worked. We all met at UPC in the morning, but as weird as it sounds, our teacher was 30 minutes late! We all weren't too concerned since we kinda knew how he operated. We go to downtown Lima and tour a museum and then a cathedral. It was interesting and shocking all at the same time. Next thing I know, we are going into the Catacombs of the San Francisco Monestary!! I never in a million years would I think I would see so many human bones, let alone in a dungeon atmosphere. This is something I will never forget that is for sure. I wasn't able to take pictures while we were in there but I stole one off of the internet so you could get the full effect.<br />

call me mama Jen) So some of us went out to eat</span> at TGI Friday’s. I know
you all are thing “HOW AMERICAN” but sometimes here in Peru we like to remind
us of home! And they put Applebee’s to shame with their birthday singing! Emily
was the best and went and bought Adam his own personal crown because he was el
rey of the night! Of course will a lot of good food, cold beverages, and a bill

successful birthday for Adam in Lima, Peru.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;">Well the rest of our weeks and time have consisted of school,
homework, Dr. Mills psychology research, and that’s about it. School is winding
down fast and we are all trying out best to get the best grades possible. Even
if a couple of our teachers are making this difficult…cough..cough.. Peruvian
Lit & Conversation. Please let’s keep our fingers crossed that we all do
great! Aside from our busy lives with school, Missy, Nikki, and I have become
pros at laying out at the pool at my apartment. The people here might think we
are crazy since it is getting into their winter but we just don’t wanna lose
all of our progress before we go back! We have also of course made another stop
at the Burrito Bar and were able to take Dr. Mill and Jeanie there. No surprise,
they absolutely loved it!! We will definitely be going there again before we
leave.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;">This last Friday, Nikki’s wonderful family wanted to have a fiesta
for us! Get a group of 20 year olds and say the word fiesta, and you got a
party to plan! And that’s exactly what we did. Her family threw us one of the
best fiestas I have ever been too. Not to mention her family is absolutely
amazing. They made us all feel right at home and as if we all belong to their
family. Also not only was it a fiesta for us, it was Emily's birthday. So like I stated for Adams birthday, we wanted to make her day amazing! We danced, danced, danced, sang,
ate, had a few refreshments and that was just the first hour!!!... No no just
kidding. But we definitely did all that all night. Jaime & Giselle ( Nikki’s
parents) were the life of the party and were even teaching us a few new dance
moves. We didn’t party until the sun came up but we did party until the
electricity went out! It was a great night with once again the greatest people.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">As you can tell as I have done my blogs, I have experienced some pretty crazy things and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I mean I am in South America for 4 months, not a lot of people can say that. However, as I type this, I know this is one of my last blogs which means my time here is coming to an end. Honestly, it is hard for me to imagine not waking up to the hustle and bustle of the 9 million people outside my window, not waking up in my twin bed (although I am super excited for my queen), not being in my 6th floor apartment with my family, and finally not seeing Lima outside my window. My family has been nothing but great to me and not seeing their faces or saying Buenos dias to them is gonna be rough. I have become so accustomed to this life, that going back to Nebraska is scary but also so very exciting. I cannot wait to see my family and all of my friends and the familiarness of my little hometown. We only have 13 days left here, and holy crap that is crazy. These people here (aka UNKers) are my family. I wake up everyday, knowing I am going to see or at least talk to one of them. Thinking that in just a few short days, we will be in different parts of NE, is hard for me to imagine. But we have all made a promise to not forget each other and I am going to hold us too that. But that's all for now...Below I'm gonna post some more of our crazy shenanigans I never want to forget!! Choa! Adios!! xoxo see you soon family & friends! besos...</span></div>

Today marks day numero 79. What does that mean? Well probably not a lot to some people but to me that means I have breathed, ate, slept, partied, danced, studied, talked, dressed, and survived as a Peruvian for 79 days. 28 days left here in Lima. What does this mean to me? I have a lot of memories, studying, and crazy things to do before I leave. I know it's been a while since I wrote last, but my life here in Lima hasn't been to crazy and it almost feels like I've finally got adjusted to this lifestyle. So here's a little overview of my life these past couple weeks.<br />
<br />
My family and I attended a birthday party for my grandma aka Victor's mom aka Daniel McKenzie's mom. We all headed over to their apartment and were celebrating this wonderful day for her. Jorge came and joined in the festivities because oddly enough my family really really loves him. Helen (one of the daughters) tells Jorge to tell me that there is going to be a surprise for the birthday girl; Norma (my grandma). They were going to have a Mariachi band come and play for her! I know cool right, her very own mariachi band for her birthday! When they arrived, they danced and danced the night away. Even with a sombrero and some cake and of course singing happy birthday in spanish! <br />

School like always is just school. It is going good. Nikki
and I started our research project for Dr. Miller’s psychology class. Our
research is about family bonding here in Peru and also about meal times. We got
a good start to our project, got our surveys handed out in no time, and now it’s
time for the results and to write the final paper. On a side note, I think this
week we have the chance to go into a school here so I am definitely excited for
this opportunity. One thing I have come to realize while seeing students in
high school or elementary schools here, they all wear uniforms. This was
definitely interesting to me.</div>

Last Friday night, something amazing happened, and that was
Missy’s boyfriend Luke was coming to visit for 9 days. Even though he had no
idea who I was, I was so excited he was coming, I think due to the fact that he
is coming from Nebraska and seeing another Nebraskan in Lima, Peru was pretty
darn exciting. He of course fit in wonderfully with our group. That Saturday we
went to a beach in Asia. (Okay the pronunciation of this place is not Asia like
the continent but instead it is pronounced hacia… this caused a little
confusing in which I will explain later.) This beach was beautiful with no
rocks, and lots of sand. We swam in the ocean (in which a wave kicked my butt
and I swallowed a lot of the ocean..not so good) and played volleyball. It was
a great day and due to Nikki’s expertise in flagging down a taxi, we rode
comfortably on the way home. That night we went out to eat at Larcomar and then
went to a discoteca. In the midst of these shenanigans, we met Omar who might
possibly be the best bartender I’ve met in Peru. He was so much fun!! Maybe
because we bought so many tequila shots! <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span>

You would think that since I have grown up in Nebraska my
whole life, my body would adjust to crazy weather and be okay with everything
right?? Wrong…. Due to Lima, Peru having some ups and downs in their
temperature all in the same day, I got a cold. I was not the only one suffering
from this. My whole family was, so I guess it should be said for my family, if
you’re gonna be sick, might as well be sick together! We are all slowly getting
over it thankfully. </div>

This past week, we went to a movie which was great but it
was even better because we accompanied it with our Dr. Peppers that we oh so
sneakily smuggled in. We also made another appearance at the Burrito Bar and
the Parque de las Aguas aka the park with beautiful fountains. Not only was
Luke here from Nebraska, but we also had another student named Megan, who was
staying with Dr. Miller and Jeanie. She is here doing a research project so
having not only 1 Nebraskan but 2, it was a little piece of home. The rest of
the week consisted of hanging out and more laughter.</div>

Last night, Brittney and her family hosted us a BBQ. BBQs
always sound fun here because that means music and really really good food. We
all headed over that at 9 and got the party started. We ate hamburgers (with
cheese and bacon), hot dogs, chips, and of course a few cold beverages. It was
so much fun and of course we had a blast dancing and making crazy fools out of
ourselves trying to live up to the hip shaking dancing of the Peruvians. Hey I
think we looked good no matter what. It was a great night with great people. </div>

These of course are only just a few of the crazy memories we've made here but are yet again some of the best. When I started this adventure, I was going to be here for 107 days and now that I am on day 79 with only 28 left I am so excited but also very sad. I have become accustomed to this life here and even though I miss my family and friends like crazy I am going to miss my family and friends here like crazy when I go home. I talked with my host mom today and we both cannot believe I
only have 4 weeks left. It is beyond crazy how fast this experience went. I
look back and I know sometimes it was going so slow and I would ask myself, Jen
are you really cut out for this? but now that the end is coming so fast, I know
that I was and I am so happy I chose to do this. I will be able to see my
friends and family 4 Sunday’s from now and I am already thinking…how the heck
and I going to get everything packed up let alone run through the airport with
all of my bags?? Well I will decided that when the time comes!! Adios!! Besos<br />

So today is day 64 if you couldn't tell in my title and as my title states, I only have 43 days left. Holy crap!! That's all I keep telling myself or saying outloud when someone tells me. Well here is a little overview of the last couple weeks in Lima, Peru.<br />
<br />
Last week consisted of school, school, school, and more school. It is going good but we have now had our fair share of tests and even had our first test in Peruvian Literature! Believe me, it was as scary as it sounds. But thank goodness our teacher is super chill and so nice that it wasn't as bad as we all were imagining. So other than big ole scary tests in lit, grammar, and psychology, school really isn't too bad. It is going to start getting a little busier because next week along with us being on campus and taking classes, the actual semester for the Peruvian students starts to UPC is going to be a whole lot busier. Which to our grammar teacher, Roberto, that may be a good thing and might make us make friends with some other Peruvians. Along with our normal classes, Roberto, has asked us to do a conversation table with other peruvian students on Tuesday afternoons. This is going good but kind of makes the weeks even busier. I am super excited because I think within the next couple weeks we will be able to go into some of the schools here in Lima and see how their classrooms work!! That's exciting!!<br />
<br />
Last week, some of us treated ourselves to some wonderful pancakes at this restaurant in El Polo. These pancakes are to die for!! They have so many different kinds and some including ice cream and nutella! How amazing right?!? We also went to a movie, The Legend of Hercules. Good movie... but also very cheesy! Nothing wrong with that. Later in the week, Nikki and I were determined to send some post cards, and Jorge was determined to find his long lost package. After traveling by taxi to 2 different locations, we still had our post cards and no package. We were not okay with paying 30 soles for each post card!! So kind of an epic fail all around. That night we went to the Burrito Bar in Barranco and met up with some (okay only 2) of our conversation friends. We went to a discoteca and danced the night away! So much fun!!<br />
<br />
The rest of the weekend consisted of watching Netflix and doing little homework. I need to get my priorities in line I know! :) But sometimes Netflix is so much more appealing. On Sunday, I went over to my grandmas apartment for a birthday party. It was a party for Helen, one of my Peruvian friends but also like my family as well. It's all kind of confusing. We spent the afternoon listening to music, drinking pisco sours, and eating great food (minus the cow heart that I didn't know I was eating.. Thanks Jorge!).<br />

<br />
On Monday, Missy, Jorge, and I were feeling adventurous and wanted to go to the district of Gamarra. This place is known for it's shopping and the oodles and oodles of stores. But it wasn't exactly what I pictured. It was like a huge mall, with dirty streets, very overwhelming, and wasn't really my favorite place to go. But it was an experience and that's what I am here for. That night, was amazing! I received a save the date from the best aunt in the whole world and my package from my bestest friend ever, April. I was so excited and once again couldn't even speak spanish to the guys downstairs. She is the best, not only did she send me an awesome easter basket, she sent me girl scout cookies!! Amazing!! I love her. <br />

On Tuesday, we decided to go to the play <i>Incendios</i> which is down in Miraflores. However, after being super excited all day and contemplating what I was going to wear, we go to buy the tickets and guess what... oh they are sold out for tonight. So after running home, getting ready in a matter of minutes, and running to vivandas, the tickets are sold out!! Well I guess a good thing is that we bought the tickets for next week so we are guaranteed to see it!! Thank goodness. A couple of Peruvians both named Maria Fernandez were going to go to the play with us but since it was sold out we decided to go to El Polo and get some ice cream. **Just a side note, I don't know what it is about the sweets (chocolate, ice cream, candy, etc) here but us Americans can not get enough of them. Everything tastes so good!!!!<br />
Okay back to what I was saying, we all went to this restaurant in El Polo to get ice cream. Well some of us get ice cream, some of us get cheesecake, but Missy and I got fondu.... and it was amazing!! Best idea ever!! We definitely had no problem finishing that. It was a good time being with the family and also with our new Peruvian friends Maria Fernandez, and Maria Fernandez. :)<br />
<br />
Thursday is the day I think we were all looking forward to.... Soccer game!! That night we were going to go watch La U vs Brazil and we were excited. I had been to a soccer game in Costa Rica and that was so much fun and it was raining so I could only imagine how fun this game was going to be since in Lima, Peru it hardly rains. The game was at 9:30 so we head down early due to traffic being crazy and we wanted to buy a jersey. We arrive 5 -8 blocks away from the stadium and it is already crazy and it's an hour and a half before the game. My thoughts were...okay soccer games don't correlate to peruvian time and holy crap Peruvians like to go hard!! Missy, Nikki, and I buy ourselves a jersey and we walk towards the entrance.... Well we thought until we had to back track and go to a different entrance. We finally make it to our section and get our seats (which are not assigned... first come first serve). I never knew picking seats and where in the section was so important until now. Thank goodness Jorge knew because half of the section is crazy and the other half is kind of mellow. However, the north section of the stadium.. saying it is crazy is an understatement.... there were guards lining this section!!! I mean it was cool to see but I don't think so cool to be sitting over there! :) Even though La U didn't play very good and scored a goal for Brazil and lost.. it was still so much fun!! I mean I thought they were playing good, but according to our soccer connoisseurs Missy and Jorge, they told us (Nikki, Adam, Emily, and I who had no idea) that they were playing pretty bad. That brings me to today, Saturday, March 15th. First and foremost, I want to wish my sister Kate a very very Happy Happy 25th Birthday!! I wish I was home to celebrate but I'll be there soon enough. Missy, Adam, Emily, and I wanted to have a beach day so thats exactly what we did. We left Surco to go to Miraflores around 11. When we got there we treated ourselves to some wonderful Oreo shakes. These things were to die for... see I'm telling you I have no idea but the ice cream is so good here. We then walk to the not so rocky beach and set up camp for the day. Well I, being not so smart like my good friend Missy who actually put on sunblock, got real real sunburnt! But my thought was I wanna be so tan when I head home so as Adam said, "I hope all of my progress isn't wasted." My thoughts exactly. So we go grab some lunch and some divine cheesecake and head for home around 4:30. It was a great, relaxing day. We decided we need to take advantage of the beaches since they are non-existent in NE.<br />

So as I stated in my title, today marks day 64 which means I only have 43 days left here in Lima, Peru. As I type this I feel a rush of emotions including, excitement, happiness, but also sadness. As our days have started to really get fewer and fewer, the plane ride home is actually starting to sound more and more real and not so far away. Also as we (we as in the people I now consider my family: the other students) talk about going home, we are all so excited but also sad at the same time. I will of course miss Peru so much when I am not here. I am going to miss my family who is wonderful, the life style here, the struggle of speaking spanish, also the fact I am improving/learning so much, the weather because it is beautiful, but all in all I am absolutely gonna miss my friends the most. We have become so close in such a short amount of time, it's almost unreal. There is nothing we don't know about each other which might freak some people out, but I have learned that by studying abroad you meet the coolest, most generous, open-minded people, and I have made friendships that will last the rest of my life. These 9 other people I have shared this crazy experience with, all hold a special place in my heart and I am so lucky to have been able to travel and get to know them. I am so truly thankful and blessed for that. I miss my family & friends back home so much I cannot wait to see you!! Adios!! xoxo </div>

Hola! This past week and couple days have been fun, spontaneous, relaxing and exhilarating all at the same time. How is that possible? Come live in Lima, Peru for 4 months then you'll understand. So here we go....<br />
<br />
Last week, we had school. School is school but holy crap it's a lot of work. Which I mean, is the reason why I am here to learn so I will embrace it and learn as much as I can. However, the amount of homework and studying I have to do is not so fun sometimes! But last Thursday, Missy, Nikki, and I tried to go to a movie with Missy's family. However, when we got to the theater it was packed with people and the tickets were sold out. So we resorted to going back to Surco and drank some wine. The next day Friday, Missy, Jorge, Adam, Dan and I went to El Centro de Lima. It was beautiful down there. Here comes the spontaneous part of last week. On the way there, the taxi driver told us of a tour we could take to San Cristobal. So as soon as we get out of the taxi, we buy our ticket 5 soles (super cheap) and go on this tour. We go up this hill where there is a huge cross and overlooks all of Lima. We could even see the ocean. It was beautiful. Up there, we could also buy candles and light them. Each candle stood for something else. Purple- health, White- family, Pink- friendship, Red- love, Orange- education, and Yellow- luck. Amazing experience! After this we went to a pancake restaurant with THE best pancakes I've ever had in my life!! They had so many different kinds including, Nutella, Nutella w/ strawberries, different kinds of ice creams and fruit, and more!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On Sunday, we left for our trip to a town called Icas. We rode a bus for 5 hours but even though this doesn't sound fun, it was comfortable, played movies, and had WiFi. So it was a great bus ride. We then arrived to our resort for the next 3 days, Las Dunas. This place was fabulous. We ate lunch then went sand boarding and sand buggying. By far, one of the funnest things I have ever done in my life!! That night we drank some wonderful wine and played Cards Against Humanity. I agree with Nikki West when I say I think I am biased, but I am pretty sure I have traveled with the best group ever!! </div>

The next day we traveled to the city of Paracas and took a boat ride to Las Islas Ballestas. I knew this experience was going to be great but it turned out to be amazing. We saw "Candalabra" which is a crazy, awesome rock formation in a hill. There are theories that say it was made by the Incas but others say, like the Nazca Lines it was made by aliens. So cool! We then arrived to the islands and saw so many amazing things for example, Pelicans, Bottle Nose Dolphins, Sea Lions, Blue Footed Boobies (a type of bird), and Penguins!! Yes, Penguins!! Since they are my favorite animal, I was jumping with excitement. When I saw the sea lions, I wanted to swim over and give them a hug and when I saw the penguins I wanted to take one with me and walk like they do! So exciting! We then spent the rest of the time in Paracas doing some shopping at the markets. </div>

The rest of the time at Las Dunas was spent relaxing, laying by the pool, getting a massage (best thing ever), drinking some wine & pisco, and hanging out with La Familia! :) This weekend was short but relaxing. I think it was the perfect time for this trip because of the craziness of school, a break from reality was nice. However, coming back to reality was not so exciting. If given the option, I think we all would've stayed at Las Dunas until April 27th. We only have 53 days left here and it is going to fly by! It is hard to believe but exciting at the same time. Love & Miss you all!! Abrazos y Besos! Adios.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some event/memories/mishaps I never want to forget..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-While in Ica- Extreme Pillow Fight occured: not only did it happen so fast, it was boys against girls, & the look on everyone's faces, they were out for blood! Especially Nikki, who may have swung a little to hard at Adam! :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- While in Ica- we made a band using no instruments only sound effects. I myself think we have a shot at making millions but we may need a little practice. Our band- Me: bass/drum noises, Nikki: harmonizing beautifully, Emily & Marina: starting us off with the words, & finally we have Adam: some crazy bird noise.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- While walking back from El Polo- All of a sudden a huge crashing noise. "Oh, someones muffler just fell off."- Jorge. All of us laughing and looking back and realizing he was completely right but have no idea how he knew that by the sound. The guy driving the car then gets out and looks at the curb as if it</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
made the muffler fall off his car! Priceless. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- While having conversations about magic & playing Cards Against Humanity with Missy & maybe a little wine- "Como una broma?"- Missy. "No."-Me (everyone talking) "Como una broma?"- Missy. "No, that's bruja."- Me. "My life is a broma!"- Missy. :)</div>

Here I am in Lima, Peru on day 44. I have come to the conclusion after a lot of time thinking, I am going to miss it here when I leave in April. At the beginning, I never thought I was going to say that but it's gonna be so crazy. One day I'll wake up in South America in my cute room in my family's apartment, and the next morning, I'll be waking up in my bed in Ashton, NE. It is so crazy, exciting, sad, surreal, and all those other things at the same time. But for right now, I'm gonna take each day as a new adventure. So here was my last week....<br />
<br />
Monday: Just conversation class. Nothing too exciting happened, it was just a normal Monday. Don't worry, even in a foreign country, no one likes Mondays.<br />
<br />
Tuesday: Today we had our first midterm in our psychology class. Oh boy, this could be rough! I go to school at 8, trying to fill my brain with as much psychology information as I could. My brain was hurting after that. We then also agreed and set up a conversation table with our grammar teacher with Peruvian students. The Peruvian students want to work on their English, and us Americans want to work on our Spanish. So we had conversation that afternoon. Some of us then decided we wanted to go to Parque de La Reserva, which is a beautiful park in Lima with beautiful fountains. Missy, Adam, Marina, and I jump in a taxi to get to the park. Clearly our taxi driver had no idea where this park was. So after getting out of that taxi and into a different taxi we finally made it!! We met Jorge, Nikki, and Amber there and were ready to be amazed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim55RGNeJhH5V3RkPuIY-cnOGkJtyfVnPRrMSfFe9OXQSyzRyR1-EMVnUtMOaFJTGv2-gcd2Dysjpwg0whjy1z_9KJ6oDM2FN6VQ_5w759dWDuOF8_2hgLbYgxQZsLYVRYF1RrBbYgrnU/s1600/DSC01912.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim55RGNeJhH5V3RkPuIY-cnOGkJtyfVnPRrMSfFe9OXQSyzRyR1-EMVnUtMOaFJTGv2-gcd2Dysjpwg0whjy1z_9KJ6oDM2FN6VQ_5w759dWDuOF8_2hgLbYgxQZsLYVRYF1RrBbYgrnU/s1600/DSC01912.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">There were so many beautiful fountains with music playing, and so many pretty colors. There was even a fountain you could walk through. I think the point was not to get wet, but there was a kiddo that was out to get Nikki, Missy, and I because we walked out a little damp. Oh well, it was so worth it! </span></div>

Wednesday: Just lit class. Nothing to crazy.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thursday: We had our normal grammar class. Well I guess I shouldn't say normal since we had 2 quizzes in class but we all made it through. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Friday: After our busy week of school, we were all craving Mexican, spicyness so Amber, Jorge, Nikki, and I decide to go to the district of Barranco to find the infamous Burrito Bar. Once we get to Barranco, we really don't know where it is and all we know is there is no sign and it is a little nook in a building. Perfect! We are asking people, no one knows, we walk, and walk, and decide to give up when Nikki yells and runs across the street "I think I just saw the word burrito..." And she did!! We finally found it!</div>

That night ended with us celebrating our midterm at Nikki's then went to a discoteca in Miraflores which of course was a blast! Dancing the night away is okay with me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Saturday: I spent most of the morning relaxing. This consisted of reading on my kindle and watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix. Rough life I know. I don't know what to do with all of this free time. While relaxing, I was talking to my mom and trying to figure out where in the heck is my package she sent me 3.5 weeks ago. We track it, and find out it is in Chimbote, Peru...which is in the northern part of Peru. I think to myself, I'm never gonna get it. But I am still hopeful. That night, Missy and I were going to go with her host sister Karla to a discoteca in Barranco. As I am getting ready to walk out of the apartment, the guy (one of the many guards at my apartment) that I have asked 7x if my package has arrived says "Hay un paquete aqui." He didn't need to say anymore, I was so excited I couldn't even speak Spanish and started crying happy tears. I am sure they are all thinking, geez crazy gringa! :) I run upstairs and tear it open. Inside is chocolate, candy and pictures of my family but also presents for my host family. My family is seriously the best! Andrea, Heidi, and Victor loved their gifts. I then called mom & skped with her and dad for a bit. Dad was talking to grandma so I was able to talk to her through skype and the phone at home! BEST DAY EVER! I then meet up with Missy and Karla and we head to Barranco to dance the night away again.</div>

So I have now bee in Lima, Peru for 1 month and 7 days. It's kind of hard for me to believe that I have lived, eaten, slept, and traveled in a South American country for that many days... and yes survived!! After our crazy week of traveling (in which my body thought it was a month the way it felt), this past week has been pretty chill and relaxing. Nothing too crazy has happened don't you worry because if it did... I would definitely be posting it. Here are a few hightlights of the past week.....<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
School. School. and more school. Yes, I know this is the reason for me to come to Lima, Peru for 4 months but after many days of traveling and having NO school, getting back into it was a little rough. But like always we had to do it and we had to be ready for it because in the week we came back we had 2 grammar quizzes (advanced grammar may I remind you), read and understand more Peruvian lit, and prepare ourselves for the scary midterm coming up in our Psychology class. Not to remind myself, I also have tests and homework in my online class.... I had to keep telling myself the wonderful, inspiring saying from my dad which is "Fin, if you work hard...then you can play hard!!" I hope all this working hard leads to the beach this weekend :) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last Thursday, Jorge's family hosted us a BBQ and it was amazing!! The sound of a BBQ was like heaven in my ears. All I could think of was good food!! :) How pathetic right? But like I said it was amazing. There was so much good food including, chicken wings, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and of course some refreshments. Most of the group was there and it was so much fun hanging out with all of them. We danced or tried to dance and even tried to learn a little Bachata and Salsa thanks to Marina. As I have said in previous blogs, they are my family and I am so blessed! All in all it was a fabulous night! :) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Friday was a new and exciting day. We were going to go to a discoteca and a concert in Punta Hermosa. Tego Calderon was who we were going to see. Jorge was getting everything lined up and I was more than excited to go and dance the night away. The plan was to meet at Vivandas at 8 and then head to Daniel's house and then to the concert. As I am getting ready, Jorge calls me and says they are running a little late, so it's going to be closer to 9. Alright no big deal, I meet up with Missy and we go to her house to wait. Jorge then calls me again and says they are getting their haircuts and it's gonna be closer to 10! I think Jorge and Daniel are getting accustomed to Peruvian time. Oh and not to mention, Missy and I are waiting on boys...yes boys!! I thought it was supposed to be the other way around :). Oh well, we head to the club around 11. With only a few shananigans and dancing the night away, we returned home around 4 am. Maybe by the time I head back, I may be a good dancer... not!! :)</div>

Saturday, we were all exhausted form our busy week at school and I was exhausted from going to the discoteca the night before. We decided on keeping it chill and relaxing by doing what we call "The American Night". Some of the group and I went to Papa Johns ate pizza, and came back to my apartment and watched a movie. It was relaxing but fun.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I spent Sunday with my family. My grandma (aka Heidi's mom) was visiting from Guardas. She was such a sweetheart and was so interested in my life in Nebraska. So of course I talked Nebraska and Ashton up like it was my job. She said she'd love to come visit. We had a great lunch and then had a few refreshments the rest of the day. My family is so great. They told me numerous times how lucky they are to have me as their first exchange student and that's great to hear when you are living 1,000s of miles away. I am so lucky!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Nothing too crazy has happened this past week but I would just say a normal week in Lima. Of course, the homesickness has set in and the things I miss the most are my family, my friends, my car, my house, the wonderful wonderful American food, my bed, and many many other things. But I am doing okay thanks to my host family and the people I am here with. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here are a list of some memories I'll never want to forget....</div>
<div>
**We (as in Americans) are all Gold members at Vivandas.</div>
<div>
**The wonderful phrases by Nikki West- Yo soy una cocina! :)</div>
<div>
"I think it's a pretty universal sign! (flipping off someone)"</div>
<div>
**Sometimes Peruvians like to take Sunday Funday to a whole new level.</div>
<div>
**It's never cool when someone steals your glasses at a discoteca.</div>
<div>
**When riding in a combi, sometimes you have to take lessons on how to hold the door closed, on the hinges, while going down the road. :) I was a bit nervous.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That's all for now but I'll be back soon!! Adios!! </div>

In 7 days I saw it all!. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
This may or may not be my longest blog ever since I haven't done it for 9 days. But hey give me a break, I have been to the jungle and back to Lima, to a wonder of the world, and back to Lima in 7 days. That's a lot for a person to take in but every minute was worth it. So here we go.<br />
<br />
Our trip to Iquitos started on the morning of February 2nd. We had to be at the airport at 4 am so due to me living in the boonies in Lima, I stayed the night at Nikki's house the night before so Missy, Nikki, Adam, and I could all take a taxi to the airport. Let's just say getting sleep before traveling to the Amazon did not happen. We arrive to the airport 2 hours ahead of our scheduled flight time. We wait... and wait... and wait... and wait even more and we're still in line for Peruvian airlines!! Holy crap, we're gonna miss our flight I thought to myself but no worries due to Peruvian time, our flight left at 7:55 instead of 6:20. We arrive safely to Iquitos.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi60oRKpVwk2zGKx2IKKvkrE0iveGP7rhfiFS2oLZViRGxkUGQE3qSt_Tsb5kwNm5qpD2RfGGCDYTPgo1eRryuzwXyaaQvSG2ZINWQ1S2SNq5LlNnFBSTaPOJLlu_xgrm4IvIeOR5VKRPw/s1600/DSC01354.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi60oRKpVwk2zGKx2IKKvkrE0iveGP7rhfiFS2oLZViRGxkUGQE3qSt_Tsb5kwNm5qpD2RfGGCDYTPgo1eRryuzwXyaaQvSG2ZINWQ1S2SNq5LlNnFBSTaPOJLlu_xgrm4IvIeOR5VKRPw/s1600/DSC01354.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We then jump on a bus with our trusty tour guide Neil and our bus driver named Jason. Yes I know we heard the names and were all a little unsure ourselves! They were very nice. We were taken to a local market where they had all kinds of different things like fruit, a lot of fish, turtle soup, and roasted worms. Yes roasted worms. I was too nervous and freaked out to try them but Nikki was a champ and ate 2 of them. You go girl!! :) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtCdW9LdpA8BJUkNMLwPzlALSZvSDzgKOdCwwCfxEqnzAuKFLcAhuHHmld0OLVcHcH2WxhLQqdOOWQHAyFH1Kin7GBRqAPicNt1PkJ392swmMqxDO5cYhRryvjlk4d0R9PLCi1XbV-EjE/s1600/DSC01370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtCdW9LdpA8BJUkNMLwPzlALSZvSDzgKOdCwwCfxEqnzAuKFLcAhuHHmld0OLVcHcH2WxhLQqdOOWQHAyFH1Kin7GBRqAPicNt1PkJ392swmMqxDO5cYhRryvjlk4d0R9PLCi1XbV-EjE/s1600/DSC01370.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We then left the market and went to a port to get on our boat that would take us to our lodge. We get all of our belongings and hop on our boat. We take off and we think YES Amazon River Lodge here we come....until our boat shuts off!! Missy, Nikki, Adam, and I look at each other and think well here goes nothing. Our trusty tour guide Neil says, "It will only be 8 minutes. We just have to clean the spark plugs!" And seriously when this guy gave you a time limit or a specific time, he wasn't kidding. In 8 minutes we were on our way. We arrived to the lodge safely and it is beautiful. We unpack our things, get an orientation of the place and it is now time for Paranha fishing. What??? Is this real life?? Yep!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We finished the day with seeing some pink dolphins in the Amazon River, and then the jungle night walk. This was something very cool, but at the same time extremely hot. We were all drenched in sweat within minutes and saw a lot of tarantulas. Cool but scary and gross at the same time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 2 of the Amazon:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We are woken up with a 5:30 wake up call from Neil to go bird watching. It was very early but it was still cool to see. After we were informed we would do this for 1 hr and 15 mins on the dot, we had breakfast and then a day jungle walk. After the night walk, we weren't to sure but we went ahead anyways because after this we were going to visit a local village with a sloth and a monkey. We were beyond excited obviously. I think after the night jungle walk, we had all had our fill of Amazon jungleness. We even got to play a little Tarzan and Jane with the vines. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When we arrived to the village, we had the cutest welcoming committee that were so excited to see us. This is when all my dreams came true and I held a sloth and a monkey. Once in a lifetime experience I'll never forget. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We then were able to see a local tribe and they performed music and dance for us. It was amazing. What wasn't so amazing. was after the sloth and monkey, Missy got extremely sick and then Mama Jen came out. We headed back to the lodge and I was ready to help her get better. That night we went on a night boat ride.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 3 of the Amazon:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
WE got to sleep in..until 7:30 today!! Woohoo!! Missy was still not feeling the best and due to the mosquitoes loving me on the night boat ride the night before, I had 2,000+ bug bites on my legs. Yep I counted! So I stayed with Missy at the lodge while the rest of the group went to a sugar can distillery nearby. After all of our wonderful activities and experiencing the jungle, we were on our flight back to Lima. We arrived back to Lima, and had to be at Dr. Miller's the next morning at 6 for our trip to Cusco. Exhausted doesn't even explain it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
**fun facts from the jungle**</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Nikki aka Jane, found her love Neil aka Tarzan in the jungle. She may become a resident of the jungle. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- No matter how many times you shower in the jungle, you're still sweating.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Bathing in sun block and bug spray is not always a bad thing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Full body mosquito suits would not be looked down upon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Seeing 4 tarantulas in a matter of 10 minutes is enough for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Missy gained some dang good ab muscles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- An experience of a lifetime!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On to the trip to Cusco</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 1 of Cusco:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We left at 8:50 from the Lima airport and landed safely in Cusco. I have 2 bags and don't even know what I packed due to being delirious when packing. Hopefully I packed warm clothes because it is chilly. Not only is it chilly, the altitude level is way high and I ask myself, dang Jen are you that out of shape that you are gasping for air? Then I realize, nope it's the altitude. We drop our bags off at the hotel and they tell us you have 2 hours to get acclimatized... oh but you have to go eat lunch yet too and be back in time for the city tour. Well so much for getting acclimatized. A group of us go eat lunch then on to the city tour. On the city tour we see many things like <span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Qoricancha, The Cathedral, Sacsayhuaman,
Q'enqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. Of course they are all beautiful. Here are a few pictures... </span></div>

After we had visited all of the wonderful places, we were ready to head back to the hotel, eat and relax. Due to the altitude and going non stop all day, we were tired. Oh and the fact that we were leaving for Machu Picchu the next day at 3:45 but I knew it was gonna be amazing so I didn't even care. </div>

Day 2 of Cusco:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My alarm goes off at 3:00 am and I ask myself what is going on. This has to be a dream... nope but today is a day a dream comes true. I am going to Machu Picchu!! We eat breakfast and we are on our way. Some of us still may have been sleeping. We arrive to the train station. I am even more excited because this is my first train ride ever! It was so exciting!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK5wqkGNbiFESlG6TWC3iW0BF4v1XG8ySp3WHGLkkP4EsQq-ldm57QpUqvNZqPyHMQwgJdwA4nWBA5ajXXna2wKwukLgt62BXNEvWmE2aZ_uL9sDQ1VJAJM1IawZtGahLmKR9VkdS_Mw8/s1600/DSC01693.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK5wqkGNbiFESlG6TWC3iW0BF4v1XG8ySp3WHGLkkP4EsQq-ldm57QpUqvNZqPyHMQwgJdwA4nWBA5ajXXna2wKwukLgt62BXNEvWmE2aZ_uL9sDQ1VJAJM1IawZtGahLmKR9VkdS_Mw8/s1600/DSC01693.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Our train stops at Cusco and guess what?! One step closer to Machu Picchu. We hop on a bus that takes us to the start of our hike up to Machu Picchu. The views are of course spectacular and something you would only see in movies or on the internet. When we see Machu Picchu, we are beyond excited and cannot believe us. Our guide, Roger, has to keep telling us, I will give you time for pictures...or there is a better view up ahead but we are all too busy taking pictures already. He then took us to places for a better view and we were even lucky enough for the fog to lift to get really good pictures. He then told us the history while we walked through the Inca Ruins. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Machu Picchu was by far the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life. It is a wonder of the world and there is a reason for that. The history behind it is amazing and so interesting and being there in the same spot the Incas were in many many years ago was something not explainable by words. Below are a few pictures.</div>

We got done walking and exploring Machu Picchu just in time because it started raining. We then waited and waited for our train to arrive and finally we were on our way back to Cusco for some much needed sleep. </div>

Day 3 of Cusco:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After our much needed sleep we are ready for a new day in Cusco with new experiences. We first traveled to the Sacred Valley of the Incas which of course was awesome. Then we traveled to a town called Pisac and went to a market there to buy some souvenirs. Of course we were allowed to barter which is always fun. Our final stop was Ollantaytambo which is a famous Inca sun temple. After exploring for a while, we left to go back to Cusco to pack up and get ready to leave the next morning.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 4 of Cusco:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was our last day in Cusco. It was bittersweet because the weather and everything we saw was absolutely beautiful there but also the altitude was still kicking my butt so I was not feeling so well. But who knows maybe it was being in two completely different climates in a matter of days with minimal sleep. Maybe my body was just sending me some signals. I was ready to return home... which in this case was Lima! How crazy right. We arrived back in Lima around 2:00ish in the afternoon, and the rest of the day consisted of.....nothing for me!! I was relieved.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some of the fun/ side notes while traveling:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Adam forgetting his backpack with EVERYTHING in McDonalds--> definition of heart attack</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-The group named me Mama Jen- due to my pharmacy kit, and always looking out for everyone</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- The cheap North Face coats- they were a steal</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-waiting, and waiting, and waiting for our train "I'm so sad!" (giggles)- Emily</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-"Can I please give you a double wet willy?"- Me</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Yes!! Please!! I'll give you a reverse wet willy!"- Jorge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-waiting, waiting, and waiting for our flight "I hate Peruvian airline!"- Missy</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Dan not wearing shoes after walking in the cold rain...in a public train station. Enough said.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Getting whistled at numerous times for being places we should not be...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"I'm gonna lose my job!"- Roger (our guide)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This last week of traveling was exhausting but at the same time exhilarating. I saw things I would have only seen on TV, on the internet, or in books. I am so thankful for this experience and I cannot believe it's already been a month since I'be been in Peru. Time is now flying by and before I know it, it will be April, and I'll look back and have no regrets!! So sorry for the very very lengthy blog, but it was much needed!! Keep reading..if I didn't bore you!! Adios!! Love and miss you all :)</div>

So of course being in a foreign country for 4 months is
scary…okay not only scary, a rush of emotions, culture shock, being here with
11 strangers that you know nothing about, a bit overwhelming or a lot
overwhelming but of course we are having fun! Since the other students and I
are so dependent on each other for these 4 months, I consider us a huge family.
So with there being so many people in our family, it is bound to happen that
there is going to be a lot of laughter and some pretty funny moments. I am
going to list only a few we have had so far so we can look back and reminisce

Lions, Tigers, & Bears, Oh My!!! :)<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Another week has gone by and yet again, it consisted of a lot of fun experiences. This week we had school and I loved every second of it.. said no college student ever.. even if I am in a foreign country, school is no bueno! :) Our conversation class consisted of our teacher getting a bit defensive and angry because we call ourselves Americans (well we do life in the United States of AMERICA :) ) but oh well. Everyday is a new day right. Peruvian Lit still may be the death of me but I can't get to made or frustrated because our teacher's explanations with hand/arm gestures make it worthwhile, and then the experience of possibly not passing my first grammar test. :) So all in all a good week right? :) I will get adjusted to school, it may just take a little more time :)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One of the most amazing discoveries we have had in Peru is movies!!! Like good, new, still in theaters, brand spanking new movies!! They sell them! For cheap!! And if anyone reading this has seen my movie collection it is pretty darn impressive!! So these movies..okay okay they may not be totally legal but they are still movies and they work great and they are cheap! Did I already say they were cheap because guess what, these things are cheap!! Yesterday, we went to the market on la calle Primavera, and I bought 3 movies for 10 soles. In American money, 10 soles= $3.54. Yeah read it again because thats exactly right!! :) As you can tell, I may or may not be a little excited.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yesterday, the group and I went to the zoo in Lima called Parques de las Leyendas. This zoo was beautiful and had a lot of different kinds of animals. A lot of llamas, and monkeys which I was completely okay with. We all met at UPC at 9 and left for the zoo. It was about an 1 1/2 hour taxi ride to the zoo but totally worth it. We spent the whole day roaming, wandering, looking, Jorge & Daniel playing with bubbles, and loving the zoo. By the end of the day we were sunburnt and exhausted. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This weekend on Sunday, Nikki, Missy, Adam, I, Dr. Miller and his family will be heading to Iquitos which is gonna be a once in a lifetime Amazon experience. We fly out on Sunday morning and return Tuesday evening. I am more excited than ever! It may not be appealing to some people (cough..cough Amber) but the mosquitos, heat, humidity, will all be worth it. Can't wait to tell you about it.</div>

Okay so I when our grammer teacher told us that he is going to take us on a hike on Sunday, up the mountains, it will take us 2 hours, and it is a little less than 2 miles... Oh and that we were leaving at 6 am and mountains are huge!... I thought to myself, oh my gosh. this is not the definition of a good time. But I put on my happy face and decided to roll with the punches. We left Lima at 6 am on the dot which means my alarm went off at 4:30. I'm pretty sure the only time people in Peru see 4:30 on their clocks is because that is what time they are getting home from the night before. We arrive to Matucana 2 hours later and meet our guide and we're off on our hike. Thank goodness we took breaks because at some point my legs felt like jello, and the sun beating down, I had to ask myself...Jen, seriously are you going to make it? Or should you lay down and have them pick you up on the way down??.. but I decided I could do it and we made it to the waterfalls!! They of course were beautiful and the whole trek, hike up the mountains was definitely worth it. This was something I would have never experienced before and I am so glad I did it. The way back down was much better but at the same time you were still scared for your life with the steep drop and loose rocks didn't help so much!! We made it back down to Matucana, and we were then on our way back home. Let's just say I think everyone went home, showered, and laid in their beds all afternoon. Or at least I did. :)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
On Saturday, the night before, some of the girls and I went to a BBQ with Amber. The BBQ was at a families house for La Ciudad's church family BBQ. It was a great experience and everyone there was so nice. They treated us just like family which is nice to have. They spoke English which was another plus and said anytime we need anything, to not hesitate to call. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I of course have hit day number 17, and I am starting to get homesick and miss my family and friends like crazy. Not only that, but just the normal daily living style of NE and the not so craziness of a small town. What keeps me going? Sometimes I just sit back and think, it is only 4 months, the people I am here with are great, it's an experience of a lifetime, and I am able to talk to my family. Does talking to my family help? Yes of course, but also sometimes it makes it worse because I'd give anything to give them a hug or be there to help my dad open up gates. But I will be able to do that soon. I love them all so much. As I have said, the people I am here with started out as my friends and now they are my family. We look out for each other, we care for each other and they are my family because we depend on each other for so much and for 4 months of our lives. Thank you everyone for your support! It means the world! Keep reading :) Adios!! </div>

It has now been week number 2 here in Peru and it has already been a great experience. This week consisted of many different activities including Dr. Miller's class, trying to recover from the foreign country sickness :), Peruvian Lit (which may be the death of me), movie theater, our first discoteca experience, grammer class, combi rides, taxi rides, and hanging out with the group. It has been a week of laughs, jokes, and becoming a bit more comfortable with this culture.<br />
<br />
School. It is going good. I love my conversation class that I have on Mondays. We talk about the most interesting topics and it doesn't matter if you have no idea what you are saying, our teacher is so willing to help us out. Now Jorge (who is a native Spanish speaker), on the other hand, finds us not so well Spanish speakers entertaining. But we are all trying to improve. Dr. Miller's psychology class is interesting and is in English so there is definitely nothing wrong with that. Our Peruvian Lit class is rough. It is hard and our poor teacher is trying to help us understand Peruvian literature. But as we all may know, English literature is hard so throwing us into a foreign literature is worse! And our last class grammer is a good class as well. Our teacher, Roberto, has worked with UNK students before and does a great job with us. Classes are going good its just that after the 3 hours of nothing but pure Spanish, my brain may or not be like jelly! :)<br />
<br />
On Tuesday, Nikki, Amber, Missy, Adam, and I went to the movie "No Se Aceptan Devoluciones" and it was such a great movie!! I definitely recommend it to all! It is all in Spanish but I'm sure the subtitles would work out great. On Thursday, we had our first night out on the town experience. We went to the discoteca called "Aura" and it was so much fun! It consisted of dancing, dancing, and more dancing. Everyone in our group is so great and so protective. We all look our for each other and at the same time all know how to have a great time. We returned home by taxi about 3:00ish which to a lot of Peruvians that is early! WHAT? :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
On Friday, we all decided to take it easy so Nikki, Amber, Missy, and I ordered in Domino's Pizza (everything delivers here, even McDonalds!) and watched the movie, The Wold of Wall Street. It was a very good movie but very long movie! When we all got home, we soon went to bed!<br />
<br />
As I said, I have survived 2 weeks in Peru and talking to people that have gone in the past, they said that the first 2 weeks are the worst. This is because of homesickness, huge culture shock, and overall a rush of different emotions. I have experienced a lot of different emotions ranging from happy, fun, --> sad, and down in the dumps. But everyday is a new day and being with these people here from UNK, it makes this whole trip worthwhile. When I say I am with the best group, that's not even close to exaggerating! :) Adios<br />
<br />
Things to look forward to:<br />
--February 2nd-4th: Going to the Amazon :) ahhhh so excited<br />
--February 5th-8th: Going to Machu Picchu :) one of the 7 wonders... Yes I am excited! :)<br />
--Countless memories & great experiences: priceless :)<br />

Earlier this week, Heidi my host mom said that we would be going to the beach for the weekend and for person that has lived in NE her whole life, going to the beach sounds amazing!! And the fact that I had just gone to one the day before, going to the beach 2 days in a row sounds pretty good! So after my day on Friday of being in the sun, I was exhausted. I slept clear until 10:00 which in Lima is hard to do with the sun rise so early, the commotion of construction right outside my window, the numerous car horns ALWAYS going off, the hustle and bustle of people, and these really loud birds. I don't know what kind they are but they are so loud, but I'm probably lucky they haven't flown in my window yet (windows in Peru don't have screens). Heidi & Victor said we would leave around 2 which is okay by me. I do some homework and I get ready for my weekend getaway.<br />
<br />
As 2 o'clock rolls around, I have all of my things packed, and I am ready to go so I am anxiously waiting us leaving. Soon enough I realize its 2:30 and Heidi, Victor, and Andrea are napping so I think well maybe they are packed and we're leaving at 3 instead. So I look on Facebook, check my email, check my hair & make-up, check Facebook again, and still no movement. I then proceed to lay down and read for a little and at 3:30 I hear movement and I think YES! we are leaving to go to the beach. Heidi comes in and says we're going to leave in 5 minutes. Needless to say, we walk out of the apartment door at 4:05. :) It has become apparent to me that Peruvian time always means at least an hour late or in this case 2 hours! :) But i can't complain we are on our way to the beach.<br />
<br />
We are headed to the beach with Betsy (family friend) and her two little girls Fatima (7 years old) and Romina (3 years old). The drive is a little over a half hour but going through Peru traffic, you best be believing you'll need a stiff drink after! It is crazy. I'm really not sure if they have a posted speed limit or for that matter any laws when driving! :) After about 30 minutes, we arrive to our destination: Playas Las Lagunas. Betsy and her husband have a beach house so that is where we stayed for the weekend. It was very exciting and of course very nice. The beach was absolutely beautiful. The sand was darker but not rocky and the water was perfect. The weekend consisted of reading, relaxing, laying out, eating some Peruvian food (I even tried Ceviche which is fish and I hate fish! I really did not like Ceviche), and drinking their well known drink which is Pisco sours. (These were delicious as well) One thing I do know...Peruvians do know how to party.<br />
<br />
Monday morning, we eat breakfast at about 11 and then leave around noon. We are headed back to reality...aka Lima. This time it takes a little over an hour to get back to Lima due to the traffic being so crazy and busy. Since this is their summer, it is very common for most of the people to go to the beach for the weekend and then return on Sunday or Monday. As we are driving, we get stuck in a traffic jam... not only is this a traffic jam but a Peruvian traffic jam. The definition of this is the people don't care how they drive, if they cut you off, or even slightly graze your bumper that's completely normal. I think to myself holy crap, am I ever gonna get back. Soon enough, after the craziness, we pull up to the apartment and we are home. I quickly unpack my things and then time for class. I meet up with the other students at Starbucks and then off to class. This weekend was very relaxing, and I understand how different some cultures are compared to the fast American culture. I miss everyone like crazy, and sometimes I have a meltdown but thanks to my wonderful friends and family, I am doing just fine!<br />
More things about Peru:<br />
-Meal times are much different: Breakfast varies 9 am-11 am, a HUGE lunch at 2pm-4pm, and coffee & bread for supper at 8pm-10pm<br />
-Peruvians are very nice people :)<br />
Adios!</div>

I made it!! Which I
am sure many of you must already know but I left the big ole state of Nebraska
on Jan 10th to start one of the craziest adventures of my life. I
will be living, studying, sleeping, eating and much more in Peru for the next 4
months. Yes this is by far the craziest thing I have ever done in my life but
as I have been here for 7 whole days, I am more excited than ever that I chose
to do this. Where to begin with my adventure? Well let’s start with the eve of
January 3rd when my wonderful family threw me a surprise going away party. All
of my wonderful friends and family came and helped me celebrate me leaving! (I
don’t know if that s a good thing or bad thing <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span>)
It was by far one of the best nights of my life. I am so blessed with how many
people care about me and believe me I cannot wait to get home and give you a
big hug and a kiss on the cheek!! One of the many things I have to get use to
in Peru! On January 10th, this was going to be the day my life
changed and all I could say was…”Wow I am really doing this.” My wonderful
family and I went down and stayed in Omaha the night before and then my flight was
the next morning at 10. I got to the airport with all my luggage (& yes
surprisingly enough I made the weight limit) and was waiting for the girls I
was flying with to arrive. Missy, another UNK student, arrives and gets checked
in and next thing I know she is telling me that due to crazy NE weather, our
original flight might be delayed but this guy at United Airlines can work his
magic and get us on an earlier flight so I say lets go for it. So needless to
say with some calling, and finding the other 3 girls we all get checked in for
the earlier flight. After a very tearful goodbye to mom, dad, grandma, April,
Liz, and Kate, I am going up the escalator ready for this adventure.. I think .
<span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
After
traveling on a plane for 14 hours, I am in Lima, Peru! Holy crap I am in South
America!! While going through customs, (with not so happy people working) I get
told my Visa is only good for 90 days and I say WHHHATT?? I have to be here for
4 months which equals 120 days!! All in all, all of us UNK students have to go
and get our Visas fixed for the right amount of days but I was thinking to
myself… Oh my gosh..how am I going to get home? Or leave this country? <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span> My wonderful family of
Victor and Heidi are waiting for me with a sign that said my name! I was more than
relieved to see them. They take me to their car and we drive 30 minutes to my
house/apartment. I am exhausted from traveling all day and fall right asleep.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Within
the next couple days, it’s weird for me when I open my eyes and realize I am
not in my room, or my bed, there is so much commotion outside..Oh yeah I am in
Lima, Peru. My family has been nothing but nice to me but I feel for them
because my Spanish is so broken and bad that I talk Spanglish a lot <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span>. My family consists of
Victor, Heidi, and Andrea who is 8. On Saturday, Heidi told me we were going to
have lunch with Victor’s mom and when we arrived, they are actually housing a
UNK student, Daniel, which was awesome to see! We spent the day at Jockey Plaza
(huge mall) and walking around with his host sister and brother. I met up with
the girls on Sunday and it was so nice being able to talk English again and not
have to rack your brain on what you are going to say next! <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span> Also it was just nice
seeing familiar faces. On Monday we started school at UPC and it is a very nice
college. It is also very secure when we enter which is nice too. I had class
with the UNK professor and other UNK students and I am excited for my classes.
The classes I will be taking are Conversation, Peruvian Lit (Yikes!),
Psychology & Culture, and a Grammer class. Yesterday, the whole group and I
did some exploring and were determined to find the beach. We took a combi (a
little bus thing that will hold way over the amount of people it should <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span> ) to Mira Flores and
walked to the beach. We had lunch together and then did some browsing. It was a
great day and when we returned we were all exhausted and ready to relax. And guess what… today is already Saturday! I
am so lucky to be able to travel to this country with the other wonderful UNK
students. I am already getting to know them so much and they are all great
people. Of course I miss everyone back home so much and sometimes think, what
in the world am I doing? But when I get a message from them or get to hear
their voices, everything is okay.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Some things I’ve learned in Peru:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-Kissing
on the cheek when I greet them! How cool!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
- The
mountains are not covered in trees but rather dirt!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-
Bembos is the Peruvian McDonalds <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-
Combis are these crazy small buses that fit so many people in them !</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
- I
cannot wait to improve my Spanish & continue this adventure </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
I have been here a
week and it has flown by so I can only imagine how the next 14 weeks are going
to go! Adiós! </div>
